How to Become a "Best in Class" Shipper

Dan Goodwill & Associates Inc. will conduct an audit of your Freight Management program. The audit consists of three elements. First, a questionnaire developed by the Aberdeen Group is administered to your top transportation management personnel. The questionnaire focuses on four key components of your Freight Transportation Program.
- Process - how well your company's transportation process is linked to your order taking, customer service, warehousing and supply chain requirements
- Organization - how effectively your company manages its inbound and outbound freight flows
- Knowledge - the availability of data on costs, shipment status and service performance to internal and external customers and suppliers
- Technology - the quality of the information systems available to manage and optimize your freight transportation including procurement, delivery, dock appointments, shipment visibility and the automation of routine tasks
The second element of the audit is plant visits to your shipping and receiving facilities. Third, personal face to face interviews are conducted with your transportation managers to review the characteristics of your freight, your transportation procedures and pricing programs. Your questionnaire data is then linked to the sites visits and knowledge of "Best Practices". A report is submitted to your company outlining the status of your freight management program across each of the four dimensions outlined above and the steps necessary to move to "Best in Class" status.
